Principles and Practice
The Mitzvah Technique is a postural correction technique which has three main components: Mitzvah exercises, daily maintenance tips on changing postural habits, and gentle, non-intrusive table work.
Our posture is often only considered to be
important in regards to how we look. Although it is certainly true that good posture is much more appealing to look at, a more important issue to our posture is how we function. Shape affect function
and this holds true when we are talking about our posture.
Good posture is designed to be the most efficient means for our body's to sit, stand and move. When our posture begins to suffer all of these activities become increasingly more difficult setting
us up for experiencing increased fatigue, increased risk of injury, degenerative changes to the skeletal system, and interference to our nervous system which can lead to pathological changes to all body systems.
Mitzvah technique employs a set of exercises that can be done easily in your own home. They are not the typical type of strengthening and stretching exercises most people are use to. The
Mitzvah exercises are based on movements that help the body to relearn what normal movement and normal posture are suppose to be. The exercises will teach the body how to function naturally.
The Mitzvah table work involves gentle hands on movements to the body that activate the body's natural systems of re-balancing. This will help an individual progress more quickly with the Mitzvah exercises.
