STANCES

Shizentai-dachi: Natural stance

Chokuritsu fudo-dachi: Formal attention stance

Shiko-dachi: Horse stance

Zenkutsu-dachi: Front stance

Neko Ashi-dachi: Cat stance

Kosa-dachi: Hook stance

Naihanchi-dachi: Horse stance (feet parallel)

Kokustu-dachi: Back stance

Heisoku-dachi: Attention stance (feet together)

BLOCKS

Jodan uke: High block

Soto uke: Outside (middle) block

Uchi uke: Inside (middle) block

Gedan uke/barai: Low block/sweep

Shuto uke: Sword hand block

Haito uke: Ridge hand block

Shotei uke: Palm heel block

Empi/Hiji uke: Elbow block

Tetsui uke: Hammer fist block

STRIKES

Tsuki: Punch

Gyaku Zuki: Reverse punch

Uraken uchi: Back fist

Shotei uchi: Palm heel strike

Shuto uchi: Sword hand strike

Haito uchi: Ridge hand strike

Hiji Ate: Elbow smash

Nukite uchi: Spear hand strike

Oi tsuki: Lunge punch

Tetsui uchi: hammer fist strike

 

 

KICKS

Mae Geri: Front kick

Yoko Geri: Side kick

Mawashi Geri: Roundhouse kick

Ushiro Geri: Back kick

Kosa Geri: Hook kick

Hangetsu Barai: Crescent kick

CLASS PROCEDURES

Rei: Bow

Shugo: Line up

Mokuso: Meditate

Mokuso Yame: Meditation ends

Shomen Ni Rei: Show respect to the past

Sensei Ni Rei: Show respect to the teacher

Keiko hajimeru: Let the ancient ways of training begin
