What is Aikido?Aikido is a modern martial art derived from the samurai aikijitsu fighting techniques of ancient Japan. Long known as a powerful and efficient martial art, Aikido is the study of techniques, not the use of strength. Aikido techniques involve large flowing circular movements where your partner's energy is guided to take him into a joint-lock or throw. These movements rely on timing, balance, and self-control, rather than physical strength and aggression. Due to its very effective but non-aggressive nature, Aikido is taught to police forces world-wide. With the development of solid basic techniques, Aikido can provide a powerful means of self-defence without undue aggression.Bushinkan DojoThe Bushinkan Dojo and its instructors are both registered and licensed by the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF) in Tokyo, Japan.
